OMG Racing have today announced that former British Talent Cup Winner Casey O’Gorman will join the team this weekend and for the rest of the 2023 season. The 16-year-old will be tackling the remainder of the British Supersport Championship onboard a Yamaha R6, prepared by the team at their Cannock-base.
Casey joined the reigning Superbike champions at Thruxton as a replacement for Junior National Superstock rider Aaron Daykin, and despite having never ridden the bike or circuit before, very nearly put the R6 on Pole, missing out by just 0.017 seconds. He was tipped for a podium in the race, before an incident on the green flag lap saw him put out of action.
OMG Racing have a history of working with up & coming racers, and are looking to build a long-term relationship with Casey after his results at Thruxton deeply impressed Team Boss Alan Gardner:
“Casey has something rare in the modern world of motorcycle racing – raw, natural talent. He’s a name I’ve followed for a while, and when the opportunity came to put him on the Junior Superstock R6 at Thruxton, it was one we couldn’t pass up. I’m genuinely excited to have him onboard for the rest of the season, and I think he’s going to upset more than a few big names with his results from the off.”
Team Principal Paul Curran echoed the thoughts: “Casey has been on my radar for a while, and following the weekend at Thruxton I was impressed with not only his genuine natural talent, but his attitude too. He has a real drive to succeed, and I think will be the perfect addition to LAMI OMG Racing for the remainder of season. Will we see him on a Superbike in 12months’ time? Stranger things have happened!”
Casey said “I’m looking forward to continuing with the team after a strong performance at Thruxton. We didn’t get the chance to show our true potential in the race, so I’m excited for a new challenge learning the Cadwell track and the Supersport bike!”
Casey will start his 2023 British Supersport campaign this weekend with LAMI OMG Racing at Cadwell Park.
