Nitrous Competitions Racing shine at Cadwell Park as Kyle Ryde crowned “King of the Mountain” and Glenn Irwin digs deep on comeback charge
The legendary Cadwell Park circuit once again provided the perfect stage for the Bennetts British Superbike Championship’s summer spectacular. Known for its narrow layout, relentless corners, and the iconic “Mountain”, the Lincolnshire venue never fails to deliver drama – and for Nitrous Competitions Racing, it was a weekend to remember.
Friday – Early Pace and Progress
The weekend began brightly, with Kyle Ryde (#77) firing an early warning shot in FP1 by topping the timesheets with a 1:25.497 – just 0.040s shy of the all-time lap record. Glenn Irwin, still on the road back from injury and gaining confidence with every session on the Yamaha R1, closed out the day in P12 – automatically booking himself a place in Q2, only 0.6s from the front. It was a strong sign of momentum building.
Saturday – Superpole Thriller and a Fighting First Race
Saturday brought the intensity of FP3, Qualifying, and the all-important Superpole shootout. Ryde was in the thick of it once again, securing P2 on the grid with another lightning-fast lap, just missing out on pole. Glenn fought his way to P14 in Superpole, still working hard to adapt to the Yamaha while showing gritty determination.
Race 1 was a thriller under the Cadwell Park skies. Ryde pushed Bridewell all the way to the flag, missing out on victory by just 0.087s in one of the closest finishes of the season. Glenn meanwhile rode a smart, aggressive race to climb into the top 10 (P10), earning solid points and continuing his comeback mission.
Sunday & Monday – King of the Mountain
Monday’s race day began with a strong warm-up session, Kyle Ryde topping the times once more – this time by just 0.003s, with Glenn in the top ten too.
Race 2, the Sprint, was another heart-stopper. Ryde and Bridewell traded blows throughout, with Kyle ultimately crossing the line in P2, just 0.097s shy of victory. Glenn brought the bike home in the points once again, continuing to add to his tally.
Then came Race 3 – the Mountain decider. In front of a packed Cadwell crowd, Ryde delivered a masterclass. Keeping his composure in the frantic early laps, he bided his time before launching a decisive move to take the lead and control the closing stages. With thousands of fans cheering, Ryde crossed the line to claim victory, securing the coveted title of “King of the Mountain” and with it, the championship lead. Glenn endured a challenging race, wrestling with tyre drop-off and grip issues, but battled all the way to the line to finish just outside the top ten – a gritty effort that underlined his determination.
Team Standings – A Title Charge
The results see Nitrous Competitions Racing Yamaha now leading the Teams’ Championship with 284 points, while Kyle Ryde heads into Donington as the new championship leader. Glenn sits P14 overall, despite missing rounds, but his points haul at Cadwell showed his growing strength.
David Williams – Team Owner, Nitrous Competitions Racing
“Cadwell Park was another huge weekend for us. Kyle was outstanding – consistent, fast, and composed, showing why he’s a real contender for this championship. Glenn continues to inspire everyone in the garage; considering his injury and the short time he’s had on the R1, his progress has been fantastic. We’re leading the championship now, but this is just the next step – the hard work continues.”
From thrilling battles to a famous Cadwell Park victory, Nitrous Competitions Racing leave Lincolnshire with trophies, points, and momentum firmly on their side. Next stop: Donington Park – Round 8 of the 2025 Bennetts British Superbike Championship.
