Get your Neal down – Knockhill R5 2019

Hey race fans! Last time out we asked Mr @PaddockChatter himself (of varying degrees of fame, depending on who you asked) to write us up a little piece ahead of racing action, he’s been about a little longer than we have after all – our memories only stretch to last season of course… Looks like he’s had a bit of fun with this one!

Before he shamelessly plugs another of his ventures, you can find PaddockChatter on Twitter as well co-host of the dynamic motopod team (worth a listen on the drive – it’s a long one!)

Oh – Here comes the shameless plug on cue! Over to you Dave…

Hello and welcome to Motopod, the internet radio show all about motorcycle road racing, this is epis….

woah….sorry, wrong job…

Let’s try again…

Hello and welcome to the continued race previews here at OMG Racing courtesy of me, @paddockchatter. Looks like we got away with the last one as somewhat surprisingly they’ve asked me to do another one! Can you believe it?! No…me neither! Anyway, here we go…

It’s that time of year where we say bye bye, baby to Brands Hatch, brush up on the words to ‘Oh, Flower of Scotland’, y’know, just in case one of the Mackenzie’s wins and we can all join in, give the old bagpipes a quick squeeze and march forth up the A1/A66/M6 etc etc for Round 5 of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Knockhill, the very Home of Scottish Motorsport!

The weather is usually top of the bill of conversation prior to the weekend, will it be wet wet wet or will it be sunshine on leith and beyond to the Kingdom of Fife for what’s sure to be a battle royal in the big country. Many of the teams won’t walk 500 miles, no they’ll drive it obviously but be sure to catch the obligatory ‘Welcome to Scotland’ photos across social media that almost every team and rider will post, clearly taken with their aztec cameras.

There are simple minds that will say it’s clearly not Texas however there are still a marillion reasons to visit the land of the thistle including the rich history, the whiskey and of course the stunning scenery that appears on almost every tin of shortbread ever made. And the racing will be pretty damn good, too! You can say what you want about the short but technical 1.3 mile circuit but it always provides action right across the weekend.

Having not graced the track with my presence as yet, I know I should’ve known better, it’s one of only two circuits on the calendar to elude me so far, so I can’t offer recommended viewing points, however from watching telly over the years the opening series of turns bear witness to the primal scream that is a pack of motorcycles vying for not a lot of tarmacadam and of course the final hairpin is always a flashpoint in any race. Make sure you take in the view back across the Firth of Forth and catch the boats sailing out to sea.

A fabulous stat from Larry ‘Scoop’ Carter emerged recently to the effect that not one member of the current BSB field has ever won at Knockhill so the question to all the fellas is do you wanna?… Will the PBM Be Wiser Ducatis continue to show amazing grace in disappearing like a real gone kid or will the field unite in a chorus of don’t leave me this way and strike back with the might of a Chelsea dagger? That’ll really get the teenage fanclub excited! What of our own OMG Racing team of hot pink and deacon blue? Will they be rejuvenated in the time since Brands? Sadly their resident comedian Billy McConnelly won’t be racing as he continues recovering from illness, just as long as he doesn’t split his stitches laughing at this immense prose…

Whichever way the shortbread crumbles, it’s sure to be a Jim Diamond of a weekend!
